Kāpiti College aims to develop ideals of leadership and service in its graduates. There is encouragement for students at all levels to take leadership and opportunities for service in everything from World Vision to the Environmental Council. Where students see a need, either as individuals or groups, there is encouragement for them to take action. Students have initiated and led everything from anti-smoking initiatives to Year 9 Trophy competitions. The College has active Sports and Arts Councils.
The Head Student Team provides a number of important leadership functions. The Head Students run assemblies and convene the various year level councils as well as the Student Executive Council. They make decisions on everything from the expenditure of workday funds to mufti day donations to the events for Youth Week. The College has had some outstanding student leaders over the years and the Council system is designed to encourage the development of young leaders.
