Trades Academy

Trades Academies deliver a range of programmes for senior secondary school students (Years 12-13). They are designed for students who are enrolled in secondary school and provide a transition between school and tertiary education.

Students attend school 3-4 days per week and their chosen tertiary provider 1-2 days per week, depending on the Academy.

Trades Academies are particularly useful for students who have a clear vision of their preferred career pathway after school. Most students who do Trades Academy transition into full time employment or full time courses at Polytech the following year.

You will gain NCEA credits, and courses are offered at Porirua, Petone, Ōtaki or Levin. Transport is either subsidised or provided.

Some of the many Trades Academies on offer include:

  • Construction & Trades

  • Creative Technology

  • Animal Care

  • Health Science

  • Hair and Beauty

  • Engines
